AUTUMN/WINTER OFFERINGS

    Long Shadows Mean Cozy Food

So the days are shorter, cloudier, rainier, cozier, and we are finally ready to introduce our new Autumn/Winter 2010 Wholesale Offerings. Which means you can count on seeing a couple old favorites and some totally new (pretty stellar) vegan baked goods in your local markets & cafes in the next week or so! And if you know of a market, cafe or restaurant that you think should carry Dovetail Bakery goods, please let us know! We always appreciate suggestions & feedback!

For these new items, as well as all everything we make, we select our ingredients carefully making sure to prioritize locally & sustainably grown sources as often as possible. We always use a light hand with our sweeteners so you can count on really tasting the ingredients! When you bake with amazing ingredients you don't need to cover it up with extra sugar. With that said, I'd like you to meet...
Chocolate Cherry Bun: Tender extra dark cocoa yeasted dough wrapped around semisweet chocolate and locally grown plump dried cherries, topped with a dark cocoa glaze. Totally amazing.
Lemon Poppyseed Muffin: Full of organic lemon zest and crunchy poppyseeds. A little taste of sunshine to brighten your winter mornings!
Pumpkin Muffin with Gingery Pepita Streusel: One of our most popular muffins is back and even better! Made with organic pumpkin and topped with crisp pumpkin seedy gingery streusel, a total winner!
Brown Sugar Hazelnut Scone: Our famous tender flaky scone, layered with organic cinnamon, homemade organic brown sugar (yes, we make our own brown sugar!), and toasted Albina City Hazelnuts.
Apple Rosemary Scone: Celebrity scone! One of my all time favorites scones, another Dovetail Bakery Original (featured as the inspiration for a recipe in Vegan Brunch by Isa Chandra Moskowitz), sweet chunks of locally grown organic apples and a hint of aromatic rosemary make for a uniquely delicious flavor combination!
Dark Chocolate Mocha Loaf Cake: Rich and bittersweet loaf cake full of extra dark cocoa & locally roasted Courier Coffee, topped with a dark chocolate glaze for an extra hint of rich chocolate sweetness.
Rosemary Garlic Corn Muffin: The corniest corn muffin. Crisp on the outside & moist on the inside, full of organic cornmeal, fresh rosemary & garlic. Perfect with a cup of soup or a salad, or on its own as an afternoon snack.

Come sample some of these upcoming pastries and

autumn tastes delicious

autumn is upon us!!! this is my absolute favorite time of year. there are so many sweet winter squashes to be eaten, so many batches of soup in the works, canning, picking, pressing, and long shadows that remind me that the sun is retreating. renewal!

with the changing of the seasons we have changed around how our menu will work from now on. we will always offer year-round favorites like chocolate chip cookies, sticky buns, wheat-free banana chocolate marble loaf cake, and lots more, but we will also have a seasonally inspired menu from now on that will change every three months (with the seasons!). we are committed to using local & sustainably grown ingredients as often as possible and this new seasonally inspired menu allows us to focus on that commitment by partnering up with small local farmers.

here is the list of seasonal offerings for autumn 2009:
apple cider buns: slices of locally grown, farm direct apples wrapped in our soft sweet roll dough with aromatic spices & a hint of orange zest topped with a light sprinkle of sugar
pumpkin muffins: moist & tender, sweet & spicy pumpkin muffins made with locally grown certified sustainable pumpkin & topped with gingered pepitas
sage & onion corn muffin: savory & warm made with organic locally milled cornmeal, sage & caramelized onions. just like cornbread stuffing!
cranberry scones: simple & balanced. tart cranberries inside of a rich flaky scone, topped with a light dusting of sugar.
wheat-free fig & onion cornmeal scone: organic locally milled cornmeal, caramelized onions & locally grown organic figs. sweet & savory.
gingerbread loaf: full of dark molasses & lots of ginger, topped with a ginger glaze.

we also have a few new year-round favorites to introduce to you:

cinnamon buns (finally!): our soft sweet roll dough full of lots of cinnamon & brown sugar topped with a light vanilla glaze
salty sweet trail mix cookies (lauren lamotte's world famous): oats, dried cranberries, dried apples, coconut flakes, chocolate chips, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds & almonds all in one brown sugar cookie, topped with a few fleur de sel crystals. the perfect salty sweet balance.
wheat-free banana fig muffins: moist wheat-free banana muffin with chunks of local, organically grown figs. so delicious together!

we would also like to welcome whole foods market laurelhurst to the list of vendors who carry our products. look for apple cider buns, cranberry scones & cinnamon buns in their pastry case!

so please enjoy the seasonally inspired autumn menu while you can because it will only be around for a few months! and as the sun retreats even further we will keep you updated about what to look forward to on our winter menu!!!

take good care & enjoy!!!

love,

our cornucopia runneth over with deliciousness and good times!!!

welcome to autumn! we have been celebrating the change in seasons with lots and lots of celebration!!! thanks to all who have helped us pull off some major feats in baking history!!! we did much super fun and exciting baking for the st. johns coffee roasting company's stand at the portland pirate festival. all those puffy sleeves and velvety vests can only make for a great time!!! i saw the tall ships in the river but never managed to get much closer than that because as soon as we had finished baking for 10,000 hungry scalliwags we began preparing for a secret cafe brunch benefit with christy from lilytoad! the benefit was for birth attendants who provide doula services to women in prison. it was so awesome to be able to help out such an amazing project. thank you to everyone who helped us pull it off!!! EXTRA SPECIAL THANK YOU TO: christy from lilytoad, lauren (my number one life saver) from anouk bakery, joel from courier coffee (always delicious!!!), hen house on sauvie island for the ridiculously beautiful dahlias, naomi from red star kombucha, and of course jesse, mckay, joyce, donnie, katherine, tom, eleanor and everyone who attended!! it was such a success that there just might be more of these events to look forward to in the future... anyhoo say farewell to your portland summer tan and get ready for some corn maze and yam time... and a few new bakery items making appearances around town. who wouldn't love to spend a fall afternoon with a slice of wheat-free pumpkin ginger loaf cake (ALBERTA ST. CO-OP), or a wheat-free banana chocolate marble loaf cake (NEW SEASONS: ARBOR LODGE), or maybe you prefer an earl grey tea cupcake with chocolate ganache (ALBERTA ST. CO-OP), or a sweet and spicy chocolate chile mango cupcake (what??? so good!!!) (RED & BLACK CAFE) and if you're feeling like a homebody 'cause it's fall try some BAKE-AT-HOME STICKY BUNS from CENA in st. johns! i love autumn!!!!!

XOXO,
love,
